Challenges Impacts Online Learning Covid-19 Pandemic

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic hit the whole world and has had a major impact on changes in the entire system of human life in terms of religion, society, economy, education, and other aspects. In the context of Education, this pandemic has caused all levels of face-to- face studies to be switched to online teaching. In line with this situation, the Ministry of Higher Education recommends that all parties conduct online learning as the main alternative to continue learning sessions throughout the MCO period. This instruction is a new norm that started since this pandemic and certainly not all students can accept this method easily because learning in cyberspace not only requires physical endurance but also involves emotional and intellectual endurance. Accordingly, this article aims to discuss the challenges of online learning for students of the Faculty of Islamic Studies, the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This study is a quantitative study and uses a survey method. The study respondents were a total of 304 students in Year 1, 2, and 3 of the Faculty of Islamic Studies. The results of the study show that the challenges faced include challenges from the point of view of devices, emotions, learning atmosphere, and workload. However, there is still a positive impact that can be taken from this online learning. Respondents agreed that the implementation of religious practices such as dhikr and self-reflection can be a solution to the pressure experienced by the students in undergoing online learning as a new norm in their life.
