Quraish Shihab Asghar Ali Quran InterpretationAbstract
This study aims to examine the Qur'anic interpretative methodologies of two contemporary Muslim thinkers, Quraish Shihab and Asghar Ali Engineer. Quraish Shihab, a renowned scholar from Indonesia, is known for his contextual approach to interpreting the Qur'an, emphasizing the harmony between text and contemporary context. He highlights the importance of understanding the historical and social background in order to extract relevant meanings from Qur'anic verses for modern society. Meanwhile, Asghar Ali Engineer, a prominent thinker from India, is recognized for his hermeneutical approach and his advocacy for human rights and social justice within the framework of Qur'anic interpretation. His interpretations frequently address issues such as gender equality, minority rights, and religious reform. This preliminary study focuses on how both approaches contribute to the development of a more dynamic and context-sensitive discourse of Qur'anic exegesis, while also assessing the effectiveness and limitations of each methodology in conveying an inclusive, just, and contemporary understanding of Islam.Downloads
