Abstract

Homosexuality among liberals has been rising through the discourse of human rights. These groups consistently attempt to reinterpret the Qur'an by constructing new models of understanding using the hermeneutic method. In the context of homosexuality and sexual orientation, this has led to challenges against Islamic law, as they seek to conform it to the modern era, despite the revelation being firmly definitive and unambiguous (qat'ie thubut). The purpose of this study is to analyse the liberal ideology towards the lifestyle of homosexuals, and how their use of hermeneutic methods, driven by rationalism, has worsened the situation and caused confusion among Muslims. This study aims to analyse liberal ideology regarding homosexual conduct, and how their application of hermeneutic methods, driven by rationalism, has worsened the issue and caused confusion among Muslims. This research adopts a qualitative methodology through in-depth document analysis, using descriptive methods to examine selected Qur'anic verses and their interpretations. Hence, this study concludes that liberals use the hermeneutic method primarily to justify their position in supporting homosexuality.
