Abstract

The sports sector's infrastructure represents a fundamental strategic pillar and a key driver of sustainable economic growth, aligning with ambitious national visions aimed at enhancing the quality of life. It plays a vital role in stimulating economic activity by fostering intersectoral linkages, attracting domestic and foreign investments, enhancing productivity, and improving the efficiency of public services. In this context, Oman Vision 2040 emphasizes the development of economic sectors, particularly sports infrastructure, as a core component of economic diversification strategies, with the objective of promoting sustainable growth and reducing reliance on the oil sector as the primary source of national income. Significant governmental efforts have been directed toward upgrading the quality and scope of sports infrastructure through the construction of multi-purpose sports facilities and the expansion of supporting transportation networks, including roads, airports, and ports. These initiatives aim to stimulate both economic and social development. Furthermore, the relationship between investment and sports infrastructure necessitates rigorous empirical investigation to elucidate the economic multiplier effects of the sports sector and its capacity to drive infrastructural development. Strengthening this relationship is essential to advancing the Sultanate’s aspirations to achieve a competitive regional and global standing. The sports sector is increasingly recognized as a strategic contributor to socio-economic development. It is no longer perceived merely as a recreational domain, but rather as an effective mechanism for human capital development, investment stimulation, employment generation, and social cohesion. This paper examines the impact of sports sector infrastructure on economic growth in the Sultanate of Oman and evaluates the effectiveness of prioritizing economic diversification policies in achieving long- term economic sustainability.
